The short answer
How do I set goals for 2027 that really last?
With just a few goals and a fixed rhythm:
- Few goals: three to five for the whole year are enough.
- Specific wording: what exactly, by when, and how will you know you've got there?
- Split into quarters: each goal gets one step for the next 13 weeks.
- Anchored in your week: every week at least one A task that contributes to a goal.
- Reviewed regularly: look back for 20 minutes at the weekend and adjust course.

The 7 rules
Seven rules for goals that last

| Rule | Why | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Less is more | Lots of goals compete for the same time. | no more than 3–5 goals for the year |
| 2. Specific, not vague | "More exercise" can't be ticked off. | What, how often, by when? |
| 3. Quarters, not the year | 13 weeks are manageable. | one step per goal per quarter |
| 4. The week as the unit | The week is where you plan and act. | one A task per goal every week |
| 5. Write it down | What's on paper stays visible. | note your goals at the front of your planner |
| 6. Reflect weekly | Small course corrections instead of big disappointment. | 20 minutes at the weekend |
| 7. Record your successes | Progress motivates. | note what you've achieved every week |

Frequently asked questions about goals and resolutions
Why do New Year's resolutions fail so often?
Usually they are too vague and have no next step. If you word your goals specifically, split them into quarters and schedule a task for them every week, you're more likely to stick with them.
How many goals should I set for 2027?
Three to five goals for the year are enough. More goals compete for the same time and energy.
How do I word a good goal?
Make it specific and measurable: what exactly, how often, by when? Instead of "more exercise", for example, "run for 30 minutes twice a week until the end of March".
How do I stick to my goals all year?
With a fixed weekly rhythm: look back for 20 minutes at the weekend, note what you've achieved and plan the next week by priority.
Which planner helps you put goals into practice?
The weekview Business Planner 2027 A5+ combines annual goals, quarterly planning and weekly pages with priorities. For reflection there is the Essentials weekly reflection book.
