A monthly calendar only ever shows the slice you are currently in. An A1 wall planner shows the whole year at once: twelve month columns side by side, every calendar week on its own line.
That makes connections visible which stay hidden on a monthly sheet – how long a project phase really is, where two holidays collide, how much sits between two trade fairs.
The wall calendar is built around calendar weeks, not months: all the days of a week stay together, even across a change of month. The first week of the year is defined to ISO 8601 – the week containing the first Thursday.

Year number
Top left, large and legible from several metres away. Sounds like a detail – but it is not, when two year sheets hang side by side during the changeover. The coloured dot in front of it is the year colour.
Twelve months side by side
January to December as columns, not as sheets. That is the real difference from a monthly calendar: you see the whole year without turning anything over.
Quarter and year colours
The columns are grouped by colour into quarters – Q1 to Q4. On top of that, each year carries its own colour. The eye finds the period before the mind reads the date.
calendar weeks
The large pale numbers in the background are the calendar week numbers. They run right through every column, so a week stays a single line even when it crosses a change of month.
Week markers
Along the left and right edges sit the markers w1 to w5 – the week within the month. Handy if you plan in rhythms: first week for planning, last week for wrapping up.
Days in a row
The staircase offset of the month starts gives it away: the layout follows ISO 8601 – all weekdays in a row, all the days of a week together, and the first week of the year unambiguously defined – the week containing the first Thursday.
Outlook 2028
Bottom left you will find the entire following year in miniature. That way you can already slot in a date for 2028 in the autumn, without the next planner being on the wall yet. Next to it: school holidays, a topic legend and space for a quote.

At the bottom is the overview of school holidays for every German federal state. Colour-highlighted in the grid: Public holidays – national and regional. Also marked in: Moon phases with full moon and new moon.
Why one wall calendar and not twelve? Because annual planning only works if you can see the year. A monthly sheet shows four weeks – and hides the other forty-eight.
