The year is too far away
Not one big resolution for the year. → Four quarterly stages.
New Year's resolutions usually fail in February – a whole year cannot be steered. weekview founder Nikolaus Obersteiner puts it in a nutshell: quarterly planning leads "from reacting to acting with foresight" – with a long view, before the urgent tasks run You over. Like a farmer: in Q2 everything revolves around sowing, in Q3 around harvesting, in Q4 around selling. That is how You divide life and annual goals into achievable portions.
The month doesn't fit the rhythm
Monthly planning falls short too: weeks run across month boundaries, and the month is a calendar unit, not a unit of experience. The quarter, by contrast, is a clean 13 weeks – a 1:13 ratio to the week, but at four times the pace compared with the year.
The quarter matters more than the year
Four quarters make up a vision for the year – not the other way round. Achieving something big four times a year and adjusting.
The quarter is the sweet spot
90 days are short enough to stay motivated and long enough to really move something. Four chances to correct per year beat the one big resolution. Embedded in the cascade year → quarter → week, every goal gets its path.
- Year: the direction.
- Quarter: the stage that really steers.
- Week: the step that counts today.
